Members of the MMOC have noted significant damage to the Chapel Street Footbridge in Riverway Park. The collapsed stonework, perhaps caused by a vehicle operating in the pedestrian-bicycle path, has been referred to the Boston Parks and Recreation Department for urgent attention. With a potential hazard to the public from the dislodged and deteriorated stones that support the capstone, Boston Parks will be protecting the structure so restoration—following strict preservation standards—can follow.
Like other bridges designed by Frederick Law Olmsted for the Muddy River Parks, the Chapel Street Footbridge is of inestimable historic value.
