Below is info on work completed, a 3 week look ahead and other information.

  • The drilling subcontractor has been working on site installing caissons for phase 1A1 of the Brookline Avenue effort. This phase includes the upstream wing wall and the beginning of the culvert. As of the end of the day yesterday (6/6) we had three caissons installed and were prepared to install another one today (6/7). Heavy rain may delay that effort until Monday (6/10). We are hoping to install a caisson a day. Work is expected to continue on caisson installation through early July.
  • Landmark Center traffic hand holes, traffic signal foundations, electrical conduit and the bollard foundations have been installed.
  • The worn pathway at the Riverway island was loamed and will be seeded tomorrow (6/8). This area was worn by the drill rig crossing from the Riverway to the Sears area. It crosses the island to minimize traffic disruptions.
  • We did have a fish kill in Upper Fens Pond last Friday (5/31). This was caused by the low dissolved oxygen (DO) in the river. The low DO was a result of the extremely high temperature and the shallow depth of the pond. The information was provided to the Mass Division of Marine Fisheries and Mass DEP.
  • Yesterday (6/6) excavated material from the Brookline Ave culvert area was being removed from the project site. This material was already tested under the contractor’s material characterization program.
  • We are hoping to do the repairs to the 72″ culvert next week. We need 3 days of no rain to perform the repair so it is weather dependent.
  • The contractor will resume civil work for the Landmark Center (curb set, etc.) Monday.
  • The prepping of traffic mast locations will be delayed until week of 23 June.
  • The traffic wiring and controls for the Landmark Center will be installed starting week of 16 June.
  • We will be installing underground traffic wiring between the Riverway Island and Sears parking Lot the week of 16 June. This will be done with single lane closures with police details.
  • The contractor will begin constructing the sidewalk around SPL for the 1A1 phase the week of 23 June.
  • Soil sample borings for pre-classification of the material in the SPL has started.

Other Miscellaneous Items:

Currently we are anticipating that we will be ready to start the one way traffic on Brookline Avenue between Park Drive and Fenway the
second week of July.

The meeting with Boston Transportation Department and others to discuss relocation of their fiber optic cable that is for the traffic cameras has been delayed until next week due to the unavailability of some of the needed participants.
