“Environmental Activist” Betsy Shure Gross is Remembered in a Boston Globe Tribute

The October 19th issue of The Boston Globe features a beautiful salute to MMOC co-founder and guiding spirit Betsy Shure Gross. Obituary editor Bryan Marquard recalls Betsy’s determination in a statement she made to the paper in 1998: “My favorite expression is, ‘It can’t be done. I take that as a personal challenge.’”

A lifelong parks advocate, Betsy took up the challenge of ensuring that public greenspace—what Frederick Law Olmsted referred to as “democracy in dirt”—was preserved and protected.

The Muddy River Restoration Project would not have happened without Betsy’s visionary leadership.
