Keeping the public informed of the massive undertaking that is transforming the Charlesgate area is central to the mission of the Charlesgate Alliance. Working in collaboration with the Emerald Necklace Conservancy, the Charles River Esplanade Association, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), CA has published a July 2026 report that includes new information and construction updates, starting with the problems that catalyzed the project:
The new report defines the multi-faceted solutions as “A Community Vision.”
The vision is magnificent. The MassDOT project represents an opportunity to reconfigure Storrow Drive, reclaim parkland for the Esplanade, reconnect the Esplanade to Charlesgate, and open expansive views over the Charles River.
