On November 8, the US Army Corps of Engineers handed back almost all remaining Work Areas to local control, signaling an important transition for the Muddy River Restoration Project. The areas include Leverett Pond, upper Riverway Park, and big sections of the Back Bay Fens. A few small areas will remain under federal warranty for another 12 months.
Congratulations to Boston Parks and Brookline Parks and Open Space for accepting the return of these parks and re-opening them to the public!
These photos by Matt Eddy show the contrast between April and November 2024 along the Riverway. Note the BAA half-marathon runners in the second photo.
