The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), Highway Division, District 6 (D6) Construction, has scheduled a virtual public information meeting (PIM) via Zoom to introduce to local residents and abutters the Carlton Street Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation project, MassDOT contract# 112791, spanning the MBTA Green line D-branch, and linking Riverway Park to the intersection of Carlton and Colchester Streets in Brookline.

The project team, spearheaded by MassDOT D6 Construction, and including Aetna Bridge Company (Contractor), Kleinfelder (Consulting Engineer), and the Town of Brookline Department of Public Works (DPW, Owner/Proponent), will present a Powerpoint overview detailing the scope of work planned for the footbridge reconstruction, as well as a proposed schedule and sequence of tasks, the first of which, site work, will begin later this month.

MassDOT, the primary funding and contract administrative agent for the project, held a Pre- Construction Conference on December 18, 2020. Since then a construction schedule and approach to dismantling and removing the existing footbridge have been developed by the Contractor, in close coordination with the MBTA, Boston Parks, Charter Contracting (Muddy River Project) and Brookline DPW. Site preparation and mobilization, including tree removals, will begin as early as March 26, 2021, weather and MBTA weekend diversion dependent, with the project achieving substantial completion as early as spring, 2022.
