Carlton Street Footbridge Rehabilitation Begins

Aetna Bridge Company has started work on the rehabilitation of the Carlton Street Footbridge.

This steel truss bridge was designed by Alexis H. French, Brookline’s first Town Engineer, working in collaboration with Frederick Law Olmsted, and was constructed in 1894. When the rehabilitation is completed in 2022, pedestrian access over the MBTA Riverside Line from Brookline’s Monmouth neighborhood to Olmsted’s Overlook in Riverway Park will be restored for the first time in more than 45 years.
